The best tips for going to the gym for the first time

Going to the gym for the first time is not easy for anyone and all people who are fitness enthusiasts today were once beginners. Various machines, props and weights can seem intimidating, and it’s perfectly normal to feel a little insecure the first time you go to the gym.

If you decide you want to go to the gym, you have already taken a big first step! And what are the next steps you can take to feel as safe and confident as possible in the gym, find out below the blog.

1. Should I go alone or with someone?

For the first time, it is better to come to the gym with someone with whom you feel safe and in a good mood. Take a friend, colleague, brother, sister or someone else by the hand and head to the gym together.

2. What should I wear?

You don’t have to have the latest sneakers or exercise equipment to go to the gym – just make sure your clothes are practical for exercising. The simplest formula is: clean sports sneakers, tracksuit or leggings, sports bra and cotton, breathable T-shirt.

3. How do I know what awaits me at the gym?

For each of our locations you can find a gallery of pictures from the gym on our website. Simply choose the location you plan to go to here and take a look at the photos to be more prepared for what awaits you at the gym.

4. What exercises should I do?

In almost all of our gyms, you will find exercise bikes, rowing machines and treadmills, which are great for warming up and improving your cardiovascular fitness, as well as helping you lose weight.

You should also give the opportunity to machines and props. Balanced training is the key to success and you will not necessarily achieve your goals if you focus solely on cardio exercises. Start doing sets of 10 or 12 reps on each device, increasing the amount of weight you lift when you feel comfortable. It is very important not to overdo it on the devices.

5. Can I use the devices for as long as I want?

You can use the devices for as long as your exercise program provides, but of course always be considerate of other members waiting to use the device.

6. What about my cell phone?

Using cell phones in the gym area is allowed, although they can sometimes interfere with your workout. Try to avoid using your mobile phone while using one of the devices.

7. What to do when I finish using the machine?

Use a towel when using the machine and wipe it when finished. Let’s be honest, you’re sure to sweat and that’s okay, just be nice and clean the device behind you. There are always disinfection sprays and paper towels available in our gyms that you can use. When wiping the machine, be sure to apply the disinfectant first on a paper towel – never directly on the appliance.

If you are not sure if you will like the gym, you can always come to one trial workout and see everything that interests you. In our gyms we have official personal trainers – Coach4you, who will be happy to show you the equipment and instruct you in training, and the first time you come to the gym, our receptionists will go with you through the gym and introduce you to its parts.
